JJ's (Aug 2020) Tips in this issue: 1. WOW! Changes? 2. JJ's Favorite Quotes 3. Tele-Coaching & Tele-Mentoring Use the following tips as training tools. Present this situation to your group and brainstorm solutions together, or submit your own situation question to be answered in an upcoming newsletter. SITUATION QUESTION: How many big changes have you experienced in the last six months, last month or even in the last week or days? How are these affecting you at work and in your home? SOLUTIONS: I’m writing this newsletter in my home office in San Jose, California with fires raging out of control on both sides of our area. Thankfully, the fires are far enough away that we have not had to be evacuated, but many friends in nearby areas have. Talk about a WOW week and days, this has been one for Californians! In the middle of the current pandemic of sheltering in place, working from home and home schooling starting again, we have had days of unusually HOT, over one-hundred degrees weather. Since many don’t have air conditioning here, they were finally asleep, and suddenly they were startled awake in the middle of the night by a loud noise. When I heard it, I thought people upstairs were moving heavy furniture across the floor. Then I realized that I was home in my one-story house and not in a hotel. It was a WOW thunderstorm with lightning! Fires immediately flared up all over the state! Without enough firemen to distinguish them, and high temperatures and winds, the fires are raging on, day after day! There are many other WOW changes that are being experienced here and around the world now too. It can be hard to keep positive and grounded with all these unexpected happenings. As devastating as losing your livelihood, your home, your loved ones or your own life is, usually, this too will pass, and you’ll eventually find a new normalcy. When WOW changes happen, remember, it’s not what happens to you, it’s how you deal with it that matters! Change is constantly happening! Sometimes you realize it and other times you think things are staying the same, but they’re not. Your body is in constant flux as it ages. Homes and jobs need to be maintained as they change. Remember, if you don’t make changes when changes are due, you’ll bring in drama and trauma to make those changes anyway! What have you learned in dealing with all these WOW changes? Perhaps it’s making a list of what to take in case of an emergency. It could be learning how to take care of yourself when everything seems overwhelming and out of control. Most of all, feel grateful for the people in your life who are here to support you! Be grateful for what you do have! And even with political and racial issues swirling around you, remember how fortunate you are to be living in the United States of America!
