SITUATION QUESTION:

When was the last time something happened in your life or work that gave you a wake-up call? How did you react?

SOLUTIONS:

Life happens when you’re making other plans! That’s what happened to our family this week!

It’s the week before Christmas and the most wonderful time of the year! But when we learned that our son-in-law who had been battling Leukemia all year had been put on hospice care, everything stood still! Learning that he wasn’t expected to survive till Christmas shook us to our core. We lost him two days later at age 39, leaving his wife (our daughter) and their 3 and 5 years old children.

Talk about a wake-up call, and right here at Christmas! It made us realize how precious life is and that no one knows how much time they have. We just assume people will get well and recover and life will go on as planned, but sometimes it doesn’t.

Let’s take this wake-up call and reach out to all those we work and live with to let them know how much we appreciate them. Use this time to settle differences and understand each other better. Reach out to relatives who have not spoken to you in a long time. Make an effort to show you care and they’re important to you! Don’t waste the spirit of the holidays. Give someone a smile or even a new lease on life because you reached out to them.

Count your blessings! Appreciate that you still have family to see and celebrate with this Christmas. My heart goes out to those who have lost family members recently and will be intensely missing them this year.

Write notes! Thank people for being in your life! Hug each other and tell those you love how precious they are to you! Celebrate with them! Reach out and enjoy the holidays as never before! Give some extra love! You’ll be glad you did!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
