JJ's (June ‘19) Tips in this issue: 1. Taking A Break? Use the following tips as training tools. Present this situation to your group and brainstorm solutions together, or submit your own situation question to be answered in an upcoming newsletter. SITUATION QUESTION: When was the last time you took a break to recharge yourself — your team — your family? Have you skipped getting away for some reason like money, too busy, shorthanded, etc.? SOLUTIONS: Some time ago I remember hearing a trusted mentor say he went fishing every year so he could have quiet moments to think and ponder. He said that sitting there in the quiet, in a new surrounding, he was able to get a different perspective on things and life. Taking a break can make a huge difference in the way you cope with problems and challenges. Let go temporarily and you will walk away with possible solutions. Recently I took a small break to attend my grandson’s high school graduation. There were 494 graduates and 5,000 parents, relatives and friends watching them parade by in caps and gowns. All of sudden they didn’t look like kids anymore. Sections of this huge audience came alive with cheers when their graduate appeared in their sight. It was electric, exciting and a very happy time for everyone! The school principal spoke to the graduates. He said, “Remaining mad at someone only gives the other person a place in your head rent free.” Let it go as this is the first day to the rest of your life! Life is like a puzzle. You have some of the pieces now but you will discover many more very soon. Make wise choices and enjoy the journey. He also said to be considerate of others, the waitress who serves you, the person who holds the door open for you, the people who show you respect and help you along the way. Show appreciation to them! As school ends, summer begins and graduates are taking a break. Hopefully you are planning a break for yourself too! This would be a good time to look back at your own high school graduation and remember the thoughts you had then. Did you receive similar advise from a speaker on the platform? Did you implement any of the suggestions? If not, take these from this principal and implement them. They could make a difference in your work and life. You have gone through some major crossroads in getting to where you are now, but it’s never too late to make changes — to enjoy your journey even more! So, take a break…get a new perspective! Enjoy your journey this summer!
